How to replace a hearing aid damper

The damper is placed in the hook on behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids

Due to the coronavirus, please wear gloves before replacing the damper as shown below. The damper works as an acoustic filter, shaping the frequency response, but also helps to stop moisture and earwax from getting into the hearing aid. If the sound output is reduced or there is no sound from the hearing aid, this may have been caused by a clogged damper and it should be replaced.
