Pairing & Connecting

What is pairing?

Pairing is the process by which you introduce two Bluetooth-enabled devices to each other and unite them with a password for secure communication.

The pairing process varies depending on the device being paired with the Streamer. The following section describes Oticon’s recommendations on how to pair the Streamer with a mobile phone.

4 steps to pairing:

Step 1: Check that your Phone is Bluetooth-enabled
If you need help in determining whether your phone supports Bluetooth, visit Oticon’s Pairing Guide. The guide also provides step-by-step instructions on how to pair the Streamer to a large number of popular mobile phones.

Step 2: Prepare Phone for Pairing – Turn on Bluetooth
To prepare the phone for pairing, access the Bluetooth feature and activate it.

Important
To save battery power the default Bluetooth setting on most mobile phones is set to “Off”. To ensure that the paired units will recognise each other after pairing, begin by changing the default to “On”.

Step 3: Prepare your Streamer for Pairing
Your Streamer must be put into pairing mode in order for the phone to be able to find it.

Begin by ensuring that the key lock is unlocked. When the slider reveals the green mark, the keys can be operated. Then ensure that the Bluetooth button is switched off. (If the Bluetooth button light fades in and out, it is on, and you will need to turn it off by pressing the Bluetooth button for about 2 to 3 seconds). Now hold the Bluetooth button down for about 7 seconds until it starts to flash, indicating that it is in pairing mode. This mode lasts for 2 minutes, giving you plenty of time to complete the procedure.

Step 4: Pair your Streamer with the Phone
Using the phone menu, find the search function and launch a search for Bluetooth devices. From the list of available devices, select “Streamer”. You will then be asked to provide a PIN code. Enter 0000. Once this is authenticated the devices will be able to recognise each other when the Bluetooth feature is on and they are within range.

TIP
If the phone offers you the opportunity to select, allow or authorise automatic reconnection, we recommend accepting. You are likely to be using the Streamer for hands-free communication on a daily basis, and this step will ensure that you can do so.

Connection and Reconnection Tips
To enable the transfer of auditory information, the phone and the Streamer must be connected. Some phones make connections and reconnections automatically, while others require a manual setup. When connection is successful one or both of the following icons will usually appear on the display screen:

Disconnection can occur, either when the Bluetooth feature has been turned off in one or both of the devices, or when the units move outside their operating range.

Important – How to reconnect
If the devices have been turned off, simply turn them on again in the right order, i.e. mobile phone first, Streamer second.

If they have moved outside their operational range, bringing them back into range within 90 seconds will allow them to automatically reconnect. If more time elapses, simply turn the Streamer off and on again.
